How this calculator works
Usable length/width = deck dimension − 2 × outer clearance. Machines per row = floor((usable dimension + gap) ÷ (machine dimension + gap)). Grid capacity = rows × columns. Trailer payload = GVWR − empty weight. Loaded trailer weight = empty weight + machine weight × count + other cargo.
Worked example
A 144 × 76-inch deck with 3 inches of clearance per outer edge has 138 × 70 inches of usable space. One 120 × 64-inch machine fits. With a 3,500 lb GVWR, 1,000 lb trailer, 1,500 lb machine, and 100 lb gear, the trailer has 900 lb of rating headroom.
A deck fit and a gate fit can give different answers
Calculated examples from published stock footprints. Clear deck size and opening size are separate inputs to a hauling plan. A nominal trailer size describes neither reliably.
Pioneer 700 Deluxe on a measured 120 × 72-inch deck
The 2025 two-seat Deluxe is published at 114.8 × 59.9 inches. With 3 inches reserved at each outer edge, usable deck space is 114 × 66 inches. The length is 0.8 inch short, even though the width clears. Reducing the allowance changes the math, but it does not establish adequate restraint space.
RZR Pro R Sport on a measured 144 × 82-inch deck
The 2025 two-seat Sport is published at 136.5 × 74 inches. The same 3-inch edge allowance leaves 138 × 76 inches, or 1.5 inches of extra length and 2 inches of extra width. A 73-inch clear gate is still 1 inch narrower than the machine.
Measure these before choosing a trailer
- Clear deck length and width between rails, wheel wells and other obstructions.
- The narrowest opening, including gate posts and ramp supports; check opening height on enclosed trailers.
- The machine's installed footprint with mirrors, tires and accessories in the intended transport configuration.
- Loaded weights and the trailer, axle, tire, ramp, hitch and tow-vehicle ratings as separate checks.
This calculator screens deck rectangles. For opening checks or mixed loads, continue to the Will It Fit planner. For the towing vehicle's manufacturer limit, use the towing calculator. A mathematical fit is not a transport approval.
Common questions
Can I mix different machine sizes?
This version checks identical machines in a uniform grid. Use the Multi-Machine Trailer Fit Calculator or Will It Fit planner for different footprints. Do not treat unused area as proof that another machine fits.
Are the results stored or sent anywhere?
No. Your entries are used in your browser for this calculation. Calculator entries are not saved. Optional My Machine and checklist preferences are stored locally as described in our privacy policy.
Measure the deck and loading opening separately
Use clear deck dimensions between obstructions, not the trailer’s advertised size. A nominal six-foot width may not describe space between rails or wheel wells. Measure the ATV or UTV at its widest installed point, including tires and accessories. Follow the trailer measurement guide to keep the footprint and usable deck on the same basis.
The outer-clearance input is applied at each deck edge. It is not a measurement of the gate or ramp opening. A machine can pass the deck calculation yet be too wide or tall to travel through an opening. Measure that loading path independently; see the open versus enclosed trailer guide for the additional constraints.
This tool uses identical rectangular machines in a uniform grid. For an ATV plus a different UTV, use the mixed-machine calculator or one-to-four-machine planner. The two-machine layout guide explains why leftover area alone cannot prove another machine fits.
